Cannondale M400 Frame 54cm w. NEW Exotic Rigid Alu Fork & FSA Orbit A-headset. For sale is a used Cannondale bike - it's been revised with the following changes.. Shimano Deore XT/LX Mega 9 drivetrain (originally a 7 speed bike); Dual shift/brake levers are NEW. Shimano Deore XT V brakes.

NEW Mavic Crossride UB 26 wheels with Continental Vertical tyres/tubes. NEW exotic rigid fork, mated with a NEW FSA Orbit X 1 headset (would have originally been a threaded chromoly fork). Here's a project I've now finished.

It's a fun bike with big tyres and the simplicity of a rigid, rim brake bike. The 9 speed set up works great and if you're not used to'brifters' you soon will become accustomed to the operation. I had an idea to add luggage, there's space within the open frame design for some fairly big frame bags, and there's some mount points on the rear dropouts for a rack if needed. The M400 frame is'Handmade in the USA' and has survived three decades of use.

There's plenty of scratches and some paint blistering/retouching, though overall impression doesn't present anything ugly and I like to keep paintwork original. This aluminium frame has life in it yet; built before the days of sloping top tubes, its seat tube measures 54cm (centre BB to top).

BB shell is English threaded 68mm - there's an external type Shimano unit fitted. Original seat post is supplied, this appears to be a Kalin 27.2 that's machined to accommodate the aluminium internal taper in these old frames; there's enough scope to accommodate various rider heights but you won't be able to use the newer long posts.

Brake posts only (no disc mount), the XT's fitted are great stoppers when paired with the Mavic UB brake surface. Dropout spacing is a standard rear 135mm/front 100mm, for QR wheels. Head tube is a 1 inch type and a new FSA Orbit X is fitted. Bottle cage bolts are fine; there's a Specialized cage included on the downtube.
